Our stars of the rugby pitch will be representing four of the six nations in the competition; Scotland, England, Wales and France. The English and Welsh squads include eight and nine players respectively, while 16 of the 34 have been called-up to play for Scotland.
Edinburgh dominate the list with their players past and present receiving 12 of the 16 call-ups. Amongst that number are five current players; prop Elliann Clarke, second-row Eva Donaldson, scrum half Rhea Clarke, centre Holly McIntyre and 2022 BUCS WNL Player of the Year, fly half/centre Meryl Smith.
It comes as no surprise that the nine Welsh call-ups are largely made up of Archers. Cardiff Met’s eight players include; Ffion Lewis, Gwen Crabb, Lleucu George, Carys Phillips, Cerys Hope, Lowri Norkett, Alex Callendar and Catherine Richards. They will be hoping to help steer Wales to an impressive Six Nations campaign.
Our English contingent is spread far and wide cross country and over the Welsh border with a spectacular seven institutions being represented. Players from current Women’s National League teams Hartpury, Loughborough, Durham, Exeter, Cardiff Met as well as former national league team Northumbria.
A few of the star names include 2021 World Rugby Women’s 15s Player of the Year Zoe Aldcroft, Hartpury and Gloucester-Hartpury’s ever elusive Emma Sing, and one of the greats of not only English rugby but world rugby, Sarah Hunter. Sarah will make her final appearance for the Red Roses this weekend against Scotland, in what has been an illustrious and trailblazing career.
