As the organising body for higher education sport in the UK, BUCS oversees more than 200 event days and 26,000 inter-university fixtures each season, with more than 100,000 students competing each year.
As such, safeguarding adults is paramount to BUCS’ overarching objectives.
Ahead of the new 2024-2025 season, it launched a refreshed safeguarding website hub, including an updated policy and new reporting tool, to enable the swift reporting of any safeguarding concerns concerning BUCS.
Additionally, BUCS Event staff have completed training provided by the Ann Craft Trust to enable them to effectively oversee and monitor safeguarding at BUCS events across the country.
BUCS CEO, Will Roberts said: “At BUCS, it is paramount that any participants in our activities feel safe and secure, and our approach to safeguarding is designed to support our strategic aim to provide exceptional student sporting experiences that inspire, develop and unite.
“Whether competing, coaching, officiating, volunteering, working or spectating at these events, the welfare of all is critical to our mission.
“The BUCS Office has undertaken a wide range of work in this area in recent months, including updating and evolving our safeguarding policy, and launching a new dedicated area on our website where participants can report any concerns. All concerns are treated with the utmost importance.
“We are continuing to develop and grow our safeguarding policy and approach, with help and assistance from the Ann Craft Trust, and I’m delighted to add our support to this week of campaigning.”
