Nottingham Trent University were shortlisted for the award alongside Northumbria University and the University of Surrey.
The Physical Activity Excellence Award aims to highlight outstanding institutions who are striving towards excellence in recognising and supporting health and wellbeing.
This award is about creating a sector standard for higher education institutions to achieve and demonstrates good practice for increasing physical activity engagement across a student and staff population.
Nottingham Trent University's strategic aim of getting more people, more active, more often is clearly thriving. Their use on place-based data and insight to design and develop their programmes, ensures that the delivery offer is specific to their student audience.
Two areas which are sector leading, would be their focus on delivering positive change through their Global Lounge, which engages with their international students, a previously underrepresented group in terms of participation. Secondly, the Rackets Cubed initiative which provides opportunities for physical activity within local schools run by student volunteers, exhibits the institutions desire to support the broader Nottingham community.
NTU Sport is engaging positively with other parts of the university, both academic and non-academic, and using their joint expertise and knowledge, to enhance their work. This has led to the sport team become more embedded and involved in wider university work.
Kate Hansbury, Head of Sports Development at Nottingham Trent University said: "We are thrilled to be named winners of the ukactive Physical Activity Excellence Award.
This award recognises everyone's hard work in creating opportunities to make sport accessible for everyone, and we couldn't be more proud.
Thank you to everyone involved - volunteers, committee members, staff, and students alike - this accolade would not be possible without all of your hard work and dedication."
