The BUCS Men's Rugby League National League kicks off today (Wednesday 9 October). The national competition replaces the previous regional structure, ensuring a higher standard of top-level men's rugby league at university level.

Six universities are set to compete in the inaugural season, with the opening round of fixtures seeing Exeter hosting Loughborough (1pm kick off), Northumbria travelling to Leeds Beckett (3pm kick off) and Newcastle facing Leeds (5pm kick off).

Teams will play each other home and away in league fixtures between 9 October and 5 February, leading into the Championship that will see a national champion crowned on March 19 at BUCS Big Wednesday at Loughborough University.

Maz Veater, BUCS Rugby League Coordinator said: "The introduction of a men's National League competition is an exciting step for university rugby league and shows the progress that the game has made in the higher education space over the last few years.

Institutions have really bought into this new level of competition, with several of our Tier 1 teams already showing interest in pushing for the playoffs this season for a chance to be involved in the National League in the 2025-26 season. I'm excited to see how all six teams get on this year."

The league table and results from each round throughout the season will be available on the BUCS Play app.
