Having held the role for nearly twenty years, Her Royal Highness has widely supported BUCS and the entire higher education sporting sector, attending key events in the calendar and acknowledging the achievements and efforts of universities and the significant role that they play.
HRH was guest of honour at BUCS Big Wednesday in 2015 and 2018, handing out medals to the best university athletes in the country. HRH also attended BUCS Conference in 2022 at the University of Warwick, where she thanked the higher education sport sector for the opportunities they provide for the next generation.
Perhaps the most significant occasion for BUCS with HRH The Princess Royal in recent times was the Reception hosted at St James’ Palace in 2019 to mark 100 years of university sport.
Sam Bell-Minogue, BUCS Director of Delivery comments: “A firm believer in the power of sport to change lives, and a keen sportswoman herself, HRH The Princess Royal is the perfect Patron for BUCS.
We are honoured that HRH is continuing her patronage of BUCS, and that she sees the value that sport can bring to students’ university experience, and the lifechanging opportunities that institutions can offer. We thank HRH for her invaluable support as we enter another year of university sport, with a brand-new strategy, delivering exceptional student sporting experiences which inspire, develop and unite.”
