GB Students announce strong delegation for the upcoming Championships taking place in Montemor-o-Velho, Portugal from 21-24 August.

BUCS is sanctioning a GB Students delegation as National University Sports Federation (NUSF) in association with Paddle UK to represent the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Canoe Sprint made its first appearance in the FISU sports programme at the Zagreb Summer Universiade in 1987, as an optional sport. In 1998, the sport was added to the World University Championships programme. Other Canoe Sports include Kayak Sprint, Canoe Slalom, Wild Water Canoeing, and more.

The GB Students delegation in full:

Men’s Kayak

  • Matt Collinge (University of Nottingham): World Class Programme athlete. 7th in K2 1000m at U23 World Championships 2023 and 10th in K1 1000m at U23 European Championships 2023. Will be competing in the K2 1000m at the Senior European Championships in June

  • Finn Cadell (University of Nottingham): 11th in K2 1000m in 2022 U23 World Championships

  • Sam Cribbett (Nottingham Trent University): First year U23 athlete. 13th in K4 500m in 2022 Junior World Championships

Women’s Kayak

  • Amy Green (University of Nottingham): Will be competing in K4 500m and K1 200m at upcoming U23 European Championships in June

  • Katie Brookes (University of Exeter): 1st place in K2 Long Course assessment race and 2nd place in U23 Long Course assessment, 12th Senior World Cup Long course 2022

  • Katie Pocklington (University of Nottingham): Will be competing in K4 500m at upcoming U23 European Champs. This will be her first international representation for Sprint, after already competing internationally in wild water racing

  • Elise Montagna (University of Nottingham): 1st place in K2 Long Course assessment race, 4th U23 Short Course

  • Jessie Urquhart (Nottingham Trent University): 10th in K1 5K at U23 World Champs 2023. Will be competing in K4 500m at upcoming U23 European Championships

  • Lucy Guest (University of Nottingham): Two bronze and a gold Medal at the U23 Wild Water World Championships 2023

  • Freya Peters (University of Nottingham): Junior K2 Marathon World bronze medallist, 8th at World Cup Short Course at 2022 ICF Marathon World Cup, 2nd U23 at National Marathon Championships last year

Men’s Canoe

  • Tom Lambert (University of Nottingham): World Class Programme athlete. 5th C1 1000m and 11th C1 200m at U23 World Championships 2023
