GB Students are delighted to announce Robyn Munro (University of Strathclyde) and Ethan Clarke (Leeds Beckett) will be the Torino 2025 Winter World University Games GB Students flag bearers for the upcoming opening ceremony.

The 2025 edition of the Winter World University Games held in Torino will start later today with both Mixed Doubles Curling and Women’s Ice Hockey in action. The official opening ceremony for the games will take place on Monday 13 January at the Inalpi Arena.

Robyn Munro (University of Strathclyde) and Ethan Clarke (Leeds Beckett) will represent GB Students at the upcoming winter games and have been selected to be flag bearers at the opening ceremony.

The University of Strathclyde’s Robyn Munro will represent Curling in the Mixed Doubles with the competition starting on Saturday 11 January. Robyn has represented Scotland & GB on six international occasions and won 4 medals. This will be her second time competing at the World University Games, after attending Lake Placid in 2023 but her first time competing in mixed curling in WUGS, given it’s a new discipline in this Games.

After being selected for the role Robyn said “Being selected as the flag bearer for Great Britain at the World University Games is an incredible honour and a moment I will treasure forever.”

“It came as a huge surprise and having competed at the games previously in 2023, I truly appreciate just how special this opportunity is.”

“I feel so privileged to carry the flag on behalf of my country and the sport of curling, and I hope to extend that honour not only by leading the team as flag bearer but also by striving to bring home a medal with Orrin (Carson, her mixed doubles teammate).”

“I’m so excited to share this amazing experience with biathlete Ethan (Clarke) and my fellow Great Britain teammates and can’t wait for what’s to come this week.”

Leeds Beckett’s Ethan Clarke, competing in Biathlon, will carry the flag alongside his fellow GB Students athlete on Monday and start his journey in the games officially on Tuesday 14 January.

Ethan Competed internationally for Great Britain at the Youth and Junior World Championship and qualified to join the British Biathlon Training Group in Font-Romeu, France. He only took up the sport in 2021 and has made tremendous strides in it, competing at this level despite only participating in Biathlon for three years.

A delighted Ethan said “I’m very happy to have been selected as the flag bearer for the opening ceremony. It’s a great honour to represent GB in Biathlon and hopefully inspire others to take up the sport!”

Chef De Mission Chris Purdie added “To be named as flag bearer for GB Students is a fantastic honour, Robyn and Ethans selection is a direct reflection of their commitment and attitude to their sports and to their fellow athletes.”

“They are both exceptional role models and ambassadors for not only Curling and Biathlon but the whole GB Student delegation. I wish them and the whole team the best of the luck for the games, as they embark on an unforgettable journey.”
