This November, the BUCS Football Development Team hosted a series of events designed to empower and inspire the next generation of football leaders.

Delivered in collaboration with key partners including StreetGames, the FA Coach Development Team, the FA National Youth Council, and Kick It Out, the Club Committee Leaders and Activators Days served as platforms for student leaders and activators from across BUCS Football Accredited Universities. The aim of the days are explore leadership skills and increase knowledge around how to deliver more inclusive football and futsal experiences.

Activators Events

Held at the University of Surrey and Sheffield Hallam University, the Activators events focused on equipping student activators with the tools to create accessible, engaging football sessions within their universities. Delivered in collaboration with StreetGames and the FA Coach Development Team, these sessions combined practical coaching workshops with discussions on inclusion and ways to adapt sessions.

Club Committee Leaders Events

The Club Committee Leaders events, supported by the FA National Youth Council and Kick It Out, took place across the North, Midlands and South regions and were hosted at impressive football stadiums. These events provided committee leaders with the opportunity to enhance their leadership skills, identify challenges, and explore strategies for creating positive environments in university football.

Focusing on leadership development, the FA National Youth Council delivered a session focusing on personal brand. Utilising the FA Volunteer Behaviour Compass Workbooks, they empowered attendees with tools to navigate their personal strengths, values and how to utilise this for personal development within their committees.

Recognising the importance of diversity and inclusion in football, Kick It Out facilitated thought-provoking workshops on addressing discrimination, promoting equality, the importance of representation and understanding other peoples experiences. Their input helped students to see their leadership roles as catalysts for meaningful change within football.

In addition to these sessions, BUCS staff facilitated positive discussions amongst all universities to share best practice and collaborate to solve challenges within their clubs. Finally, the days were wrapped up with action planning to allow each committee member to plan their main objectives within their roles and map out a clear journey to achieve these.

By working closely with partners such as StreetGames, the FA, and Kick It Out, the BUCS Football Development Team aim to create a comprehensive offer of events addressing both the practical and strategic aspects of football leadership within universities. The goal was to empower student leaders to drive participation, foster inclusion, and build sustainable football offers within their universities.
