On 11 November, the BUCS insight team launched the latest iteration of the Student Active Wellbeing Survey in partnership with Scottish Student Sport. This survey builds on the British Active Student Survey (BASS) that was conducted in 2019-20, which proved invaluable to members when demonstrating the impact of active lifestyles on students’ wellbeing. This year’s survey follows a similar theme, with an emphasis on demonstrating the impact leading an active lifestyle has on students’ overall wellbeing. We will produce a report detailing the findings that will be made available to all members as well as providing institutions with their own student data, upon request. The more responses you receive, the more reliable your institution’s individual data will be. You can use this link to promote the survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/N2S92MM. The survey closes on 16 December.
As of Monday 25 November, we have already received 3,203 student responses – a third of our goal of 10,000! Thirty-three member institutions have received over 25 responses so far but we need more institutions to help us reach our goal.
Across the 3,203 responses we have received so far:
- 87% are from active students – we need more responses from less active students
- 60% are from females and 39% are from males
- 5% are from Black/Black British students, 13% are from Asian/Asian British students, 5% are from students of mixed or multiple ethnic groups, and 74% are from White/White British students
- 88% are from students at English institutions, 8% are from students at Scottish institutions, and 4% are from students at Welsh institutions
We have put together a guidance document to help institutions increase their response rate, especially amongst inactive students. Please help us reach our goal of 10,000 responses so we can ensure this survey is as impactful as possible.
