We are delighted to announce that global telecommunications company BT Group will become the headline partner of the BUCS basketball programme.

The largest basketball programme in the UK; over 5000 students from 111 different universities will compete in the BUCS and BT Basketball Programme.

Following from their headline partnership of the 2022 BUCS and BT Outdoor Athletics Championships, BT Group’s backing of our men’s and women’s basketball programmes will help BUCS continue to raise the profile of the important pathway the programme provides. It is also an opportunity to showcase BT as a valuable employer for graduate opportunities to the talented student athletes that are part of the basketball community.

Our basketball leagues and competitions, which take place on BUCS Wednesdays, see over 350 teams competing every single week. This league programme concludes in the ultimate celebration of team sport on BUCS Big Wednesday, which last year saw Newcastle take the men’s championship title and Essex secure the women’s championship title.

Andy Gilvary, Head of Competitions and Performance commented on the partnership: “It’s fantastic to see such an internationally recognised brand such as BT Group continue to show their support to our competitions and events following the success of the Outdoor Athletics Championships. Our basketball programme continues to go from strength to strength and it’s an exciting time to have BT Group on board.

There are a lot of synergies between BUCS and BT Group; both are high performance organisations, committed to building a culture where people can be their best and striving to provide excellent opportunities for young leaders across the UK.”

Paul Sobers, Head of Early Careers said: “At BT Group, we are very excited to be partnering with British University College Sports (BUCS) Basketball this coming academic year. BT Group is passionate about attracting and developing young people to help them get a head start in their career so partnering with an organisation at the heart of the University experience is a great pleasure. With the recent success of the England 3x3 basketball team in the commonwealth games, its a fantastic time for basketball in the UK and we are elated to have our brand attached to a sport that is growing and enjoying such great attention nationwide.”
