The inaugural season of the BUCS American Football National League is due to kick off on Saturday afternoon with UWE taking on Nottingham in front of livestream camera’s live on the BUCS YouTube channel (4pm kick off). Five universities are due to compete in the upcoming 2024-25 National League season including, UWE, Leeds Beckett, Durham, Nottingham and Loughborough.
Tonye Dububo, BUCS American Football Programme Manager said “I am really excited about the introduction of an American Football National League. This is not just a massive step for the sport within BUCS, it is also a massive step for the sport in the UK as a whole. The National League will provide an environment that promotes a higher level of competition. The National League will continue to raise the profile and influence of a sport that has for so long been one of the best kept secrets in the sporting landscape."
Saturday's game is the first of three livestreamed National League fixtures in 2024-25. Nottingham welcome East Midlands rivals Loughborough on Saturday 7 December, before the two teams from the north, Durham and Leeds Beckett face off on Saturday 8 February.
