On A Level results day we take a look at the wealth of sporting opportunities available at BUCS

For BUCS, A Level results day marks an exciting day in the calendar. Not only do we get a sneak peek at the new sports stars who’ll be representing their universities come September, but we are able to showcase the huge amount of opportunities across every level available to incoming students.

With 52 different sports to choose from, ranging from BUCS Super Rugby, netball and tennis, to trampolining, windsurfing and rowing, there really is something for everyone. Our extensive league and competitions programme - bring on #BUCSWednesdays - is complimented by over 125 events a year, as well as brilliant development and volunteering opportunities.

Following years of disruption from COVID-19, the 2021-22 season was one of the best we’ve ever seen with over 100,000 students engaging in university sport, over 26,000 fixtures taking place across the UK and over 5,000 teams competing. This busy season all culminated with our biggest BUCS Big Wednesday ever featuring 57 fixtures, 16 sports and 114 teams all competing to lift the trophy.

We are also proud of our ever-expanding para and disability sport offering at BUCS. From para powerlifting to wheelchair basketball and wheelchair tennis, as well as para cycling and para-athletics options, we are committed to continuing to grow our work in this area and providing an environment where all students can participate in university sport.

At BUCS, we offer students so much more than just the opportunity to play competitive sport. Our ever-growing development programmes allow us to engage an even wider audience, from our award winning Women’s Leadership Programme, to our Universal Gym Programme, to the support we give universities through our BUCS Active programmes. These programmes offer students everything from personal and professional growth opportunities, to coaching and officiating qualifications. We’re proud to be continuously broadening our offering and we can’t wait for these new students to be a part of this.

Once again, a huge congratulations to everyone receiving their results today, we can’t wait to help put sport at the very heart of your university experience, and we look forward to welcoming new faces, new enthusiasm, and new talent into the BUCS bubble.
