The end of each sporting season marks a year full of BUCS Wednesday battles, classic rivalries, and the most electric of celebrations.
Before we begin preparations for all the countless new faces entering university sport, we must celebrate the old ones before they go off to start their new chapters and take a minute to reflect on yet another groundbreaking year…
The 2022-23 season comprised of 128 events, including three of our newest members to the programme: canoe sprint, touch rugby and powerlifting. We saw a massive 25,800 fixtures take place featuring 5,100 teams across 24 sports (you could say we’re pretty proud of that).
From our participation and medals won on the international stage in Lake Placid to delivering the biggest ever BUCS Regatta, we took the saying ‘diving in headfirst’ pretty literally this year. Our much-loved BUCS Nationals was back for its 10th birthday and our celebrations were record-breaking with the flagship event gaining more digital engagement than any other campaign this year.
Participation and active wellbeing continued to thrive, with three research papers developed, over 50,000 participants in football development programmes, and over 13,700 bookings on the UNIversal Gym platform.
Ultimately, this year reminded us that the medals won might be temporary, but the memories made here will last a lifetime.
