Professional and Technical Services and Person Specification:

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following attributes:

Qualifications:

Degree level qualification (or equivalent) in Strength & Conditioning

Hold ‘Accredited Strength & Conditioning Coach’ status as recognised by the UKSCA or working towards completion.

UKAD Clean Sport Advisor & Coach Clean accreditation or willing to complete.

Valid First Aid Certificate

Experience:

Track record of successfully leading, developing and inspiring others.

Substantial background within Strength & Conditioning, including the provision of services to athletes in a range of sports and liaisons with multi-disciplinary teams.

A track record of delivering high quality sport to performance athletes.

Working with a variety of different sporting partners in an inter-disciplinary manner.

A track record in engaging in continuous personal development.

Knowledge and Abilities:

Detailed knowledge of Strength & Conditioning programmes within the sporting environment.

Evidence of up-to-date knowledge of advances in the field.

An understanding of the elite and high-performance sport environments and what it takes to train successful athletes.

Demonstrated ability to produce a range of programmes across within a multi-sport environment to ensure an appropriate level of athlete development.

Knowledge and understanding of the range of support services accessed by performance athletes and inter-disciplinary working.

A broad understanding of higher education in the UK and the needs of dual career high performance athletes.

A knowledge of sporting performance indicators and their effective application.

Excellent coaching and practical delivery skills and acting as an example to colleagues, specifically student placements.

Excellent communication skills: written, verbal, non-verbal and listening.

Excellent interpersonal skills: leadership, team work, adaptability, understanding others & negotiation.

Excellent self-management skills: actively reflect on learning, autonomy, self awareness, action planning, time management & initiative.

Ability to use Microsoft Office, or equivalent, for a wide range of day to day activities

Job Purpose:

To deliver high quality Strength & Conditioning programme services focusing on supporting performance teams and individual athletic development across both ActiveHud and Students’ Union programming and contributing to our USAB strategic aims.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The role will encompass all of the following;

To deliver strength & conditioning services to UoH students and external teams as directed by the Assistant Manager (Group Exercise & Fitness) on a flexible basis in line with needs and demand, offering appropriate delivery to the level of athlete(s), appropriate fault correction, and setting an appropriate rate of development.

Offer a comprehensive athlete - focussed programmes that considers the athlete’s needs, sport-specific requirements and physical development.

Offer a comprehensive team - focussed programmes that considers the identified team’s needs, sport-specific requirements and physical development.

To work with colleagues in sport specific inter-disciplinary teams to ensure that programmes are delivered in a co-ordinated manner, specifically complementing the technical programme and input from team coaches.

In partnership with the School of Human Health Sciences, facilitate UoH students the opportunity to gain practical experience that complements their studies whilst also increasing their employability opportunities.

To work with relevant colleagues to identify appropriate academic level research projects in the Strength & Conditioning subject area and assist in the recruitment, supervision, and practical delivery for students working on these projects.

Working alongside colleagues in the School of Human Health Sciences to ensure that placement students are able to obtain all relevant data and facilitating opportunities to allow them to effectively complete their practical – based assessments.
