Description

The University of Hertfordshire Sports Village is seeking a hands-on Duty Manager to lead a busy operations team.

Our first-class facilities and customer focused team attract students, staff and the local community from elite sports professionals to those who are just starting out.

The successful candidate will be leading a team delivering bookings and events from international/national standard through to local grass roots level. This includes connecting with organisations including Arsenal Women’s FC, Saracens Mavericks Super League Netball, England Fencing, Swim England, England Badminton, British Weightlifting and many more.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

You will have full responsibility and accountability for ensuring all bookings and events are delivered efficiently and effectively on shift, with guest-orientated service at the centre of delivery.

Additionally, you will lead by example and oversee all staff working on shift ensuring all facilities are clean, safe and welcoming in accordance with written procedures and that service is delivered to all members in-line with our vision, mission and values.

The role will require you to prioritise delivering an exceptional experience to every customer, every time and Arrange working patterns via rotas to achieve effective and efficient staffing, in line with current working time directive.

You will line manage a team of Sports Assistants through excellent people management, recruitment, probation, appraisal, development, promotion and progression, review of performance according to policies and procedures agreed by the University.

Skill and Experience Required:

You will have supervisory operational experience in a ‘wet and dry’ sports facility and experience of writing and implementing procedures and risk assessments.

Previous line management experience of staff, recruiting and inducting new members of staff and proven experience and up to date knowledge of industry specific Health and Safety legislation and good practice will be essential.

You will have determination and presence to contribute and achieve and be proactive in your approach to work.

You will need to be innovative to think up ideas and solutions to improve business performance.

You will also be able to communicate openly and effectively at all levels in the business, engaging others to understand what is being communicated.

It will be expected that you can build effective working relationships at all levels with ease. You must be accurate in your approach to work, especially when working at pace or under pressure of work.

The role will also require you to be excellent with IT packages and use within the leisure industry and be able to work flexibly and unsociable hours.

Qualifications Required:

You will hold a NVQ level 2 or above / 3 A levels at grade A-C or equivalent demonstrable industry specific experience, 5 GCSE’s at grade C or above including Maths and English or equivalents (BTEC’s, NVQ’s, GNVQ’s etc) and current NPLQ with up to date and obtainable training records.
