The aim of Brookes Sport is to create an environment where teams and individuals are supported to succeed, and maintain our national BUCS ranking (30-35th place). All official Brookes Sport sports clubs are registered under the TEAMBrookes banner. TEAMBrookes encapsulates 37 affiliated sports clubs, with in excess of 1,400 student members. Brookes Sport is now seeking a Men's Basketball Head Coach as we move into the new season.
Job Details: The post holder will lead the Men's 1st team of the Basketball Club at Oxford Brookes University. Whilst the role will primarily be responsible for the coaching and leadership of the club’s 1st team, but will also support the wider development of the club and sport at the university. The team will train 21:00-23:00 on Mondays each week throughout Semester 1 and 2 for their technical training session at our Headington Campus' Centre for Sport. The team competes in BUCS Tier 2 Midlands and plays 10 league games with additional Knockout Cup fixtures between October and March on Wednesday afternoons. Attending these fixtures would be an essential part of the role.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
Job purpose: To lead, plan and implement a coaching programme for the team in OBU Basketball to allow them to compete to the best of their abilities in the BUCS weekly fixture programme, contributing to our strategic aims of creating an environment where teams & individuals are supported to succeed, and maintaining our national BUCS ranking (30-35th place).
Principal duties and responsibilities:
1) Performance Coaching:
- To lead, plan and implement the delivery of an effective development-coaching programme for OBU Basketball, allowing student-athletes to perform to the best of their abilities. This is to include both group and individual technical and tactical coaching, and the creation of programmes for pre-season, in-season and off-season.
- To assist TEAMBrookes staff in ensuring that team are receiving appropriate and relevant access to Brookes Sports’ range of support services (where available), including sport science, strength and conditioning, nutritional support and physiotherapy, liaising with all partners on a regular basis.
- To assist the TEAMBrookes staff in managing the programmes of the highest performance athletes in partnership with their external clubs/performance programmes to ensure they are receiving the highest quality of experience and allowing them to perform to the best of their ability for OBU.
- To work with the club committees to develop and implement a talent identification system, including an effective trials/introductory session process.
- To manage volunteer assistant coaches within the programme and assist with the recruitment of coaches where appropriate.
- Work in partnership with other TEAMBrookes staff and club committee members to ensure optimal development of the sport at the university.
2) Other Duties:
- Work with other TEAMBrookes sports coaches to share best practice and information and make recommendations for wider service improvements.
- To update TEAMBrookes staff via informal conversation and team briefings on business undertaken and developments proposed.
