DMUsport has developed greatly in the brief time since its inception in 2016. There are several opportunities to join the department in various sports. Hours: Monday 19:00-20:30 & Thursday 19:00-20:30
Fixtures occur on Wednesdays during term time, with 2 hours for home and 4 hours for away fixtures. Time is TBD due to opposition and facility availability.
Average hours per week during term time delivery including coaching, admin & competitions = 5.4
Duties and responsibilities:
The Sports Coach will join our team with the purpose of coaching sport specific student teams. There will be a focus on supporting committees to deliver to the needs of the student clubs, whilst developing the skills of the students you coach and increasing the number of students engaged in the sessions, ensuring participation levels remain high and are representative of our student body.
Coaches are expected to attend all training and all BUCS matches. Session times included in the advert are indicative and may be subject to change.
Skills and experience:
To be successful, you will be passionate about the sport you coach and the wider benefits of sport and physical activity to students. You will be empathetic to the needs of students and willing toadapt and engage with students. There is an emphasis on ensuring students enjoy and remain engaged in the sport.
Level 2 (or equivalent) qualified, working towards Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification or relevant experience
Experience of coaching relevant sport, at an intermediate level
Experience of developing athletes and long-term athlete development plans
In-depth understanding of coaching styles and practical delivery
An understanding of Long-Term Athlete Development and structure of student sport (specifically in higher education)
Ability to manage people and programme and to ensure delivery against objectives
Ability to work independently on own initiative and as part of a team
Ability to write reports or assessments etc and contribute to meetings as required.
Able to work outside of normal core hours
Commitment to observe the University’s Equal Opportunities policy
