Discipline Specifics
Race
The ski and snowboard racing events will consist of an individual timed Slalom. Wednesday’s start list will be drawn as follows: women first, with seeded competitors drawn according to BCRs, followed by unseeded competitors drawn randomly, followed by men drawn in the same way. Thursday’s start list will be drawn as follows: women first, with Wednesday's top 30 finishers running in reverse time order, followed by the remaining qualified finishers in time order, followed by the men in the same order.
On each day, two courses will be set initially, with one being used for women’s first run, and the other for men’s first run. For the second run, the courses will be swapped.
Duals
Snowboard dual slalom teams will consist of 4 riders. These races will run straight after the SB race. The draw is done randomly, and they are straight knockouts. There will be a best of three-run final on Thursday.
Ski dual slalom races will be the last competition of the alpine disciplines. The teams will consist of 5 athletes of both genders. The draw is random, where there are universities that can field more than one team. We will endeavour to draw second teams and beyond amongst themselves first. It is a straight knock out with a three-run final on Thursday.
Team Declarations (Duals)
Captains must declare the names of all duals team members for their institution prior to the reporting deadline of 1pm on the day of the event. Please note that competing racers/riders must appear as approved competitors on BUCS Play to be eligible to take part in the team duals competitions. Failure to submit these details by this deadline and/or including any ineligible racers/riders on your declaration will result in the removal of the team(s) from the Final Draw.
Substitutions
There are no substitutions allowed for individual racing events. Substitutions are permitted in accordance to BUCS Snowsports sport-specific regulations SNW7 for team duals.
Protests & Reruns
If a racer believes they have been impeded during their run, they should not cross the finish line but instead report to the nearest official and request a re-run. Re-runs would not normally be granted to racers who have crossed the finish line.
Any protests should be made by team captains in accordance with BCR/ICR 640-646, during the 15-minute window following protocol being published after each run.
Competitors wishing to discuss the outcome of a race held during the team duals competitions must lodge their protest to a member of event staff located at the bottom of the race slope before the end of the round in which their race took place. Once the next round of the draw commences, all race results from the previous round will count as final and no further protests will be accepted. See BUCS Snowsports regulations SNW 7.6.2 and SNW 7.6.3.
Competitors are reminded that all event staff and officials are to be treated with respect and should only be approached by one team member at a time when discussing race outcomes.
Freestyle
The Ski and Snowboard Freestyle competition will take place on a Slopestyle course containing both rail and jump features. A jam session qualifier to showcase ability and trick variety will determine the finalists for each gender and discipline. The finalists will then compete in a 3 run, best run counts, final.
Please note these formats are subject to change based on time and injuries.
Qualification to Finals
Race
Approximately 75% of each field will progress to the Finals on Thursday. The number of qualifiers are therefore as follows:
Men’s Ski Race – 75 (from 98 entrants)
Women’s Ski Race – 50 (from 65 entrants)
Men’s Snowboard Race – 14 (from 17 entrants)
Women’s Snowboard Race – 8 (from 10 entrants)
Duals
The duals will be run as a straight knockout draw, and the aim is to complete the Ski duals draw up to a certain stage on Wednesday whereas Snowboard Duals will consist of different draws on each day.
In the Ski duals, the aim will be to complete the draw up until the quarter final stage (last 8 teams from 24 entrants) on Wednesday.
The rest of Ski duals’ draw will then be completed on Thursday, culminating in a 3-run final to decide the winning team.
Due to low enter numbers in the snowboard duals, all 4 teams entered will automatically progress through to Day 2 of the Indoor Championships. To determine seeding for the Finals Day, all entered teams will race on Wednesday and the competition will consist of 2 semi final races, 1 run small final and 1 run final. No medals/BUCS points will be awarded for Day 1 results, prizes will be determined by results of Thursday’s 3-run final.
Freestyle
There will be an open practice session on Wednesday morning, where all competitors can do as many runs as they like. There will then be a qualifier in which competitors will be judged, and the following numbers progressed through to the Thursday:
Men’s Ski Freestyle – 16 (from 57 entrants)
Women’s Ski Freestyle – 8 (from 12 entrants)
Men’s Snowboard Freestyle – 16 (from 18 entrants)
Women’s Snowboard Freestyle – 8 (from 12 entrants)
On Thursday morning there will be another open practice session, in which all competitors can participate (even those who have not qualified).
The semi-finals will then take place, containing the number of competitors detailed above. The top 4 competitors in each semi final will then progress through to the final.
Withdrawals and Substitutions
Competitor withdrawals must be made by a competitor's institutional administrator emailing Tanyel Mustafa (BUCS Event Coordinator).
Withdrawals before the entry deadline (13 February 2025 at 23:59) will not be charged.
Withdrawals after the entry deadline (13 February 2025 at 23:59) and before 23:59 on 21 February 2025 will still be charged the entry fee.
Competitors who do not withdraw before 23:59 on 21 February 2025 or do not attend the competition will be classed as a late withdrawal/no show and therefore will be charged the entry fee. They will also be fined £50 which will be charged after the event, to the competitor’s athletic union.
Should BUCS have to open stage two entries then new deadlines for withdrawals will be published. Reserves will only be charged an entry fee if they are accepted into the competition.
Please see our Withdrawal Policy for more details.
Substitutions
Please note that competing racers/riders for Duals Events must be entered on BUCS Play within the Duals event or as a reserve to be eligible to take part in the team duals competitions.
Reserves must have applied to the Duals Event as per the entry process and entry closing dates outlined above AND must have been approved by an IA (but not assigned into a team) to be considered a reserve.
Substitutions cannot be made for individual events.

The Ring-go app can also be used to pay for parking. Please see the ticket machines for exact fees. All vehicles are left at the owner’s risk.
There are also various housing estates in the surrounding area containing free parking, where vehicles can be left. Please remember all vehicles are left at the owner’s risk.

Sustainability
The sustainability of our event matters to us and these are the positive steps we are taking to manage our environmental impact:
- All staff and volunteers are encouraged to travel to the event via public transport
- We have used local suppliers where possible
- Event programmes are all online, minimising paper use
- We are beginning to track our carbon footprint across BUCS events to identify areas of improvement.
How can you help at this event? Here’s some ideas:
- Be self-sufficient by bringing your own refillable bottles and coffee cups to reduce waste.
- Ensure you are disposing of waste correctly – Check around the venue for specific recycling and food waste bins.
- Travel smarter – as a team on a minibus, cycle or use public transport.
- Go paperless - use your phone for all event information
