Registration

Registration will take place at the BUCS Events Office. This will be located underneath the café and will be signposted.

Registration will open from 07:00-08:00. Please note that captains will need to register their team, rather than all individuals registering themselves. Captains will also be able to collect the bibs for their institution.

If you arrive at the same time as the mandatory captains’ meeting, please send another individual to register your institution in their place.

Please ensure all students bring a valid form of student ID.

Ski/snowboard hire will open at 08:00. Those competing in Ski Race should collect any required equipment as early as possible and make their way to course inspection immediately.

All timings are subject to change forward or backward as events may finish early or overrun. Changes to the schedule will be posted in a WhatsApp announcement group made available on arrival at the venue.

Captains Meeting

The captains’ meeting is compulsory. This will take place at 08:00 outside the BUCS Office.

Any universities not represented at the captains’ meeting will be fined £20.

Bibs

ALL bibs must be returned to the BUCS Office at the event. Lost or stolen bibs will result in a £50 fine.

Spectators

As outlined in the entry information, there are no spectators permitted at this event.

Withdrawals

Competitor withdrawals must be made by a competitors athletic/students union by emailing the event lead. 

Please see REG 7.9 for our withdrawal policy. 

Competitors who withdraw after 23:59 on the 1st November 2024 or who do not attend the event will be classed as a late withdrawal/no show and therefore will be charged the entry fee and fined £50.

Should BUCS have to open stage two entries then new deadlines for withdrawals will be published.

Reserves will only be charged an entry fee if they are accepted into the competition.

Parking

The main car park will have a very limited number of spaces. Please note all vehicles are left at the owner’s risk.

Please contact Tanyel Mustafa to confirm your parking requirements for the day, including numbers, size/type of vehicles and estimated time of arrival.

Food and Drink

The venue café will be open to all staff and competitors, serving hot and cold food throughout the day. The café will be open from 07:00 to 20:30.

Alcohol and Drugs

Drugs and alcohol are strictly prohibited on the premises. Security will be searching people and bags at the entrance – anyone found to be in possession of any prohibited items will be refused entry and disqualified.

As can be seen in Reg 5.1.2 below, there will be a zero-tolerance policy on drugs and alcohol.

REG 5.1.2 The consumption of alcohol or recreational drugs (in addition to substances covered under REG 4.5) by competitors will not be tolerated. Competitors at any BUCS event or fixture found to be consuming such substances will be automatically disqualified and may face further disciplinary action under this regulation.

Presentations

All prize giving ceremonies will take place at the end of all competitions, tentatively scheduled for 19:30 on the Main Slope. 

Clothing and Equipment

All competitors must wear Snowsports-specific helmets. These must be secured and fastened correctly. BUCS reserves the right to disqualify athletes who do not wear long sleeves and whose helmet is not done up correctly. Alongside this, mounted cameras and Go Pros will not be allowed during competition. BUCS strongly advises against mounts of any description on any helmets.

Lift Use

Only competitors wearing their bibs and equipment will be able to use the lift. Once inspection is shut, we will allow individuals onto the lift based on their start number. This is to ensure smooth access to the start area and for competitions to run on time. The chairlift will not be in use.

Competition Format

SKI RACE - All competitors will start in the slalom first run from the lower start box. The top 30 finishers from the women’s and men’s races will start in the second run, following a course reset. The top 60 finishers from the women’s and men’s slalom first run will start in the giant slalom race from the top. The exact number of qualifying competitors may be subject to change on the day, e.g. due to time constraints, but will always be communicated in advance of the start of a run.

SB RACE - The top 16 finishers from the men’s race and Top 8 from the women’s competition will progress through to the Individual KO race, scheduled to begin immediately after the finalisation of the results of the GS SB competition. Seeding for the Individual KO draw will be determined by the finishing position of riders in these results.

FREESTYLE - Progression details for both Slopestyle and Big Air competitions will be confirmed to the riders during their specific event briefing sessions on the day of BUDS. 

Duals

Please note, ski duals teams must have five competitors and at least one team member of the opposite gender to the rest, as per the regulation below:

SNW 7.1.1 Ski dual teams must consist of five competitors with at least one of the opposite gender to the rest.

SNW 7.1.2 Snowboard dual teams must consist of four competitors who can all be the same gender.

Duals - Team Declarations

Captains must declare the names of all duals team members for their institution prior to the reporting deadline of 2pm on the day of the event. Please note that competing racers/riders must appear as approved competitors on BUCS Play to be eligible to take part in the team duals competitions. Failure to submit these details by this deadline and/or including any ineligible racers/riders on your declaration will result in the removal of the team(s) from the Final Draw. 

Protests & Reruns

If a racer believes they have been impeded during their run, they should not cross the finish line but instead report to the nearest official and request a re-run. Re-runs would not normally be granted to racers who have crossed the finish line. Note that the sprinklers at Hillend operate on an intermittent basis, so the sprinklers being temporarily ‘off’ during an individual’s run is not a valid reason for a re-run.

Any protests should be made by team captains in accordance with BCR/ICR 640-646, during the 15-minute protocol window following the conclusion of each competition run.

Competitors wishing to discuss the outcome of a race held during the team duals competitions must lodge their complaint to a member of event staff located at the bottom of the race slope  before the end of the round in which their race took place. Once the next round of the draw commences, all race results from the previous round will count as final and no further complaints will be accepted. See BUCS Snowsports regulations SNW 7.6.2 and SNW 7.6.3.

Competitors are reminded that all event staff and officials are to be treated with respect and should only be approached by one team member at a time when discussing race outcomes.  

Double Entry Competitor

Should you be entered into both racing and freestyle, you should prioritise racing over freestyle. As soon as you complete your first run, you should make your way to freestyle. 

Should you be entered into both Ski race and SB race, you should prioritise ski racing over snowboarding. As soon as you complete your first run, you should make your way to the main slope for the snowboarding race. 

Behavioural Warning

Upon entry all competitors will be searched by security along with their bags. 
All alcohol found upon a person entering the premises will be confiscated permanently.  

Interactions with Staff - All our volunteers and staff will be treated with respect at all times. If this respect is not seen, BUCS reserves the right to disqualify any person or team  as well as remove any person(s) from the premises when found to be using offensive and/or aggressive language towards any other competitor, volunteers, officials and/or venue staff. Competitors are subject to the BUCS rules and regulations, whereby should you be in violation of the BUCS rules you will be sanctioned.

Ski Race – All competitors will compete in Slalom to qualify through to the Giant Slalom.

Overall team positions are extracted from individual scores. The top 8 finishers in each individual competition will be awarded points which contribute to your overall team score. If you finish 1st you received 8 points, 2nd received 7 points, 3rd receives 6 points and so on. In duals, the top four are awarded points which contribute to your overall team score. 1st received 8 points, 2nd received 4 points, 3rd receives 2 points and 4th receives 1 points. The total score is used to determine you overall men’s and women’s team score. You must have a minimum if two competitors to constitution a team.

Drone Policy

The use of drones at BUCS events is strictly prohibited. The only permissible use of drones will be with the permission of BUCS for professional companies with appropriate licences, insurance, risk assessments and in line with all the requirements of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). 

Photography & Videography

Anyone wishing to take photos or video at this event must complete the BUCS Media Accreditation Form prior to the event.

BUCS reserves the right to prohibit photography equipment being used at a BUCS event. BUCS reserves the right to request that the individual ceases to take photographs, deletes any images and, if considered necessary, leaves the venue.
