“Stage 2” will be opened on Friday 2 December 2022 for the addition of reserves ONLY and will remain open until 11:59pm on Tuesday 13 December 2022. Note that this deadline is different to the usual Thursday closing of BUCS Play events to enable institutions to add reserve players (and then use them to replace withdrawn entries) for the duration of the team element of the Championships.
ENTRY FEE
£37.50 per competitor
Please note: there is no accomodation package for this event; competitors are required to source their own accommodation, should they require it. It is strongly advised that competitors ensure any accommodation they book has a free-cancellation option to cover the eventuality that their entries are not accepted.
Entry Allowance
Teams are to be made up of a maximum of three or four players, three of which will play in any given match.
An institution unable to raise the minimum of three competitors needed for a team may enter a maximum of one competitor into the event to play in the Individual Championship only, however an institution with exactly five competitors may not enter one team of four and one unattached individual (or one team of three and two unattached individuals); such an institution must either limit their entry to four competitors (all in one team) or find a sixth competitor (to make two teams of three).
The number of teams that can be accepted is limited to 32 and preference will be given to first teams, then second teams, etc then to institutions highest in the event rankings. For example, if 37 entries are received comprised of 20 first teams, 10 second teams, 5 third teams and 2 fourth teams then all of the first teams, all of the second teams and the two highest-ranked institutions' third teams would be accepted (with the third-highest ranked institution’s third team being first reserve, the fourth-highest ranked institution’s third team being second reserve, etc).
If your institution enters multiple teams, other than in exceptional circumstances players ascribed to a particular team will unable to compete for any lower ranked team in the tournament. As such, please make your team selections carefully. Players may be moved up from a lower to a higher ranked team (e.g. seconds to firsts) or from the reserve list into a team.
Entry Process
To apply for the event all eligible competitors must follow these steps:
1. Competitors to apply to the event on BUCS Play (Instructions on how to do this can be found here);
2. Institution administrator approves entry (Instructions on how to do this can be found here); and
3. BUCS approves/denies entry into the event and publishes confirmed entry list.
Each institution must also appoint one of its attendees to be the institution’s “main contact” for the event when applying.
The main contact will be required to email a Team Information form to UPC detailing which of his institution’s competitors are ascribed to which of its teams, who the team captains are, whether any competitors require reasonable adjustment, etc and will serve as the main point of contact between UPC and their institution’s delegation at the event in case of any matters that are not applicable to the team captain(s).
Any data will be handled in accordance with BUCS Privacy Policy.
By participating in this event you agree to adhere to BUCS General Event Disclaimer.

Competitions
Individual Championship
● Single elimination throughout.
● All matches are a race to 5 frames, lag for first break then winner breaks through to the end of the match.
● Competitors who are part of their institution’s first team or who are entering the event without a team will, without exception, play in this competition.
Individual Trophy
● Single elimination throughout.
● All matches are a race to 4 frames, lag for first break then winner breaks through to the end of the match.
● Competitors who are part of a team which is not their institution’s first team will, by default, play in this competition. Such players may opt to compete in the Individual Championship instead of the Individual Trophy, but this can only be done by indicating this on the Team Information form supplied to UPC by the institution’s main contact.
● The Individual Trophy will only take place if the size of its field is at least sixteen competitors AND constitutes at least 20% of the overall entry into the event. If the Individual Trophy does not take place then all competitors will play in the Individual Championship.
● One double-elimination group stage for both competitions.
● Subject to having won at least one match, the top two first teams from each group progress to the Team Championship single-elimination playoffs.
● The next highest two teams (of any denomination) from each group progress to the Team Trophy single-elimination playoffs.
● All matches consist of three “rubbers”, which will usually all be played simultaneously. Each rubber consists of one player from one team playing against one player from the other team in a race to 5 frames, lagging for first break then winner breaks through to the end of the rubber. The winner of a match is the team that wins the most rubbers.
