Draw
The draw for each discipline will take place on the day once registration has closed.
Licenses
Fencers may only compete in the BUCS Championships if they are in possession of a current British Fencing ‘Compete’ licence. British Fencing ‘Recreational’ Licenses and FIE Licences will not be accepted. You must produce proof of your license (Full license) when registering for the championships. British Fencing Licenses are available from www.britishfencing.com
Fencers will not be able to obtain a new British Fencing Licence on the day. They MUST be purchased before entering.

Rules & Regulations
The BUCS Fencing Championships shall be conducted in accordance with the following BUCS sport specific regulations, the BUCS general regulations, and the rules of British Fencing. Further event specific requirements, rules, and regulations will be contained within the entry and pre-event information for each Championship.

Gender Policies
Implications of the British Fencing Gender Policies for Licensed Events – Effective 1 January 2025
As per BUCS REG 4.3.1, is the National Governing body of the sport where the activity is taking place has a policy on transgender participation in sport this shall be followed.
On 1 January 2025, British Fencing’s new Gender Policies for Licensed Events came into effect. For the 2024-25 season, this has the following implications for the BUCS Individuals Fencing Championships:
- Individual Championships: As this is a Licensed Compete Event, which has not yet begun, the categories previously referred to as ‘Men’s’ and ‘Women’s shall now be referred to as ‘Mixed’ (or ‘Mixed’/’Men’s’) and ‘Female’, with eligibility for these as per section 9.1 of the British Fencing Gender Policies for Licensed Events.
Withdrawals
To withdraw from the event, please contact your Institution Administrator who should inform the event lead.

Food & Drink
There is an onsite café that can be used for purchasing food and drink. The cafe will be open at the following times:
Friday 9.00 - 18.30
Saturday & Sunday 8.00am - 18.30
There is also a range of local shops/restaurants near to the Canon Medical Arena.
Photography & Videography
Anyone wishing to take photos or video at this event must complete the BUCS Media Accreditation Form prior to the event.
BUCS reserves the right to prohibit photography equipment being used at a BUCS event. BUCS reserves the right to request that the individual ceases to take photographs, deletes any images and, if considered necessary, leaves the venue.
BUCS Points
BUCS Points will be awarded to the winner, runner-up and third placed competitors in each discipline. The points will be applied as follows: 1st = 12 points, 2nd = 8 points, 3rd = 5 points (both losing semi-finalists will receive points – no third place play off will take place).

The sustainability of our event matters to us and these are the positive steps we are taking to manage our environmental impact:
- All staff and volunteers are encouraged to travel to the event via public transport
- We have used local suppliers where possible
- Event programmes and start lists are all online, minimising paper use
- We will print on demand merchandise (if applicable)
- Using QR codes around the venue to find sport specific information & results
How can you help at this event? Here’s some ideas:
- Be self-sufficient by using refillable bottles and coffee cups to reduce waste
- Travel smarter – as a team on a minibus, cycle or use public transport
- Go paperless - use your phone for all event information
