Event Guide
Registration
Competitors must register before their first match on the day of competition, and collect their match scorecard. Competitors who do not register, and do not show for their first match, will be withdrawn. Competitors may be required to provide a valid student identification card at registration to confirm their eligibility.
Registration is located at Event Control on the first floor balcony in the Netball Hall. Registration opens one hour before competition starts (09:30 on Friday 18 February). Competitors should allow time to register before competing and are encouraged to register as soon as they arrive at the venue.
Please note that the numbers refer to the match number, not the player number.

Timetable
The draw for the competition will be available on Friday 19 February at the venue.
The competition is run using a straight knockout format. There are no group stages.
Rules and Regulations
All BUCS badminton competitions are governed in accordance with the National Governing Body rules and regulations, unless superseded by a BUCS rule or regulation found here
The BUCS Tournament Referee has the final decision in all sporting competition matters. This includes any rulings or disputes not covered by regulations and the speed of shuttles used.
Competitors not on court within 5 minutes of their match being announced will forfeit the match.
Clothing and Equipment
Regulation clothing should be worn during matches, including clean rubber or similar soled footwear (non-marking). Doubles pairings are required to wear matching coloured clothing during matches i.e. shirts and shorts must match the same colour and style as their playing partner.
Competitors must provide their own equipment. BUCS will provide shuttles. BUCS cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage to an individual’s possessions left in the venue.
All equipment bags should be left in the bag store located next to the entrance to the Netball Hall. Due to space restrictions competitors are encouraged to only bring essential items into the venue.
Any equipment bags taken into the seating area in the Basketball Hall will be removed by security.
Coaching
In Rounds 1-3, play shall be continuous from the first service until the end of the match. There shall be no intervals: when a side reaches 11 points in a game, between the first and second games, and between the second and third games.
From Round 4 onwards coaching and intervals will be allowed.
Finals
Finals will take place on Sunday 20th February from approximately 2.30pm. The finals are estimated to finish by 7.00pm. The presentation of trophies and medals will take place following the conclusion of the finals. Timings are subject to change.
Para-Doubles Competition
We are excitied to have our inagural para doubles competition. We will be hosting an invitiational tournment where alumini's and current students will combine and compete against each other to showcase the best of para doubles.
Registration - 8:45am
Tournament begins - 9:00am
Tournament ends - 2:00pm
The final of the para doubles will happen on the main courts along side the other finals which starts roughly at 3:00pm.

Teach First:
Teach First are a leading education charity, fighting to make education fair for every child. Sport develops so many of the transferable skills needed to become a great teacher and leader. That's why Teach First are looking for BUCS students to apply for their two-year graduate Training Programme, or their Taster Programmes for students in first and second year. Regularly voted one of the top graduate programs in the UK, Teach First is definitely a career with purpose and meaning. Sustainability
The sustainability of our event matters to us and we are taking steps to manage our environmental impact. BUCS encourages competitors to:
- Bring your own bottles & coffee cups for drinks throughout the event
- Take public transport, or car share, to the event if you can
- Use the start lists published online
- Use the QR codes around the venue to find sport specific information & results
Covid-19
Competitors are strongly advised to wear a mask when not competing. This is to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and protect staff, officials, volunteers and other competitors.
Any athlete seeking medical attention from a BUCS doctor or physio MUST wear a mask at all times.

What’s expected of competitors:

Event competitors should stay home if they have been diagnosed with, or suspected to have COVID-19
- Event competitors are expected to test if they have any COVID-19 symptoms or live in the same household with someone with COVID-19 symptoms prior to attending an event
- Competitors should stay home if they have been instructed to quarantine/self isolate due to international travel restrictions or by relevant home nation test and trace systems
- Competitors must follow direction from event staff, venue staff and volunteers.
- Competitors should ensure they are following hand hygiene practices at all times
- Competitors are encouraged to wear a face covering when indoors and moving about the building
- Competitors should follow the guidance and safety procedures outlined for the event you are attending. These can be found in the Event Guide
- Competitors unable to attend event due to COVID-19 must contact the event lead
Despite all these extra measures we have implemented, it is impossible to fully remove all risk.
Please carefully consider your options and make sure you are completely comfortable with the risks involved, before attending this event.
