Archery: Indoor Regional Qualifiers 2024-25

£34.50 per competitor 

This fee covers individual entry to BUCS Regional Qualifiers and (where applicable) Finals and Team entries. 

Tuesday 7 January 2025 at 11:59pm – Student/Competitor Deadline

Thursday 9 January 2025 at 11:59pm – Institution Administrator Deadline  

(Institution Administrators are given 48 hours after the student/competitor deadline to approve entries) 

Competitors will shoot a UK Record Status Portsmouth Round in line with ARC 2.1.1.1. 

Competitors at Record Status tournaments are liable for drug testing, and competitors approached to give samples must comply. Refusal to comply will be treated as a positive result.  

PLEASE NOTE: All archers (including compounds) will be asked to share a target face.  

There are no BUCS Points available at the Regional Events, however (depending on entry numbers) medals are awarded to: 

Men’s Novice Barebow, Compound, Longbow and Recurve  

Women’s Novice Barebow, Compound, Longbow and Recurve  

Open Novice Team Trophy: the highest three non-compound scores from the eligible male or female competitors from each institution, Novice only. 

Please note: only archers who have achieved the qualification score (or higher) for their category will be eligible for awards.

Qualification scores must have been shot at/after the BUCS Regional events in 2024 (17 February 2024) and before the entry closing date (7 January 2025). 

Qualification scores must be submitted with an archer’s entry. Qualification scores can be gained by shooting either a Portsmouth or WA18 round. 

Whilst these scores do not have to be shot at a full competition, it is required that they are shot under competition conditions (e.g. countersigned scoresheets, adequate distance, field captain, controlled shooting). PLEASE NOTE: The scores for next year will change in line with the latest ArcheryGB classification tables. We will aim to publish the new scores in good time. 

For the BUCS Indoor competition(s) qualification scores will be spot checked prior to, at and/or after the event. Any archer who does not achieve the qualification score or higher at their regional qualifier will be asked to give evidence of their qualification score after the event (if not included with their entry). Evidence will be requested via an email to their respective Sports/Athletic Union and the email address provided with their entry. This evidence will need to be a countersigned score sheet or results sheet and must be presented within one week of it being requested. This evidence may be asked for up to six months after the tournament date. 

Failure to provide appropriate evidence will result in a £15 fine and disqualification. 

To be eligible to compete at the BUCS Indoor Archery Championships you must be a current student at a BUCS member institution (as set out in the BUCS Regulations) and a member of ArcheryGB. 

Archers are eligible for the novice category as per ARC3, and have entered the appropriate category on the online entry form. Queries regarding whether an archer is eligible for novice status should be directed to Joe Gallimore. Any individual who enters the tournament and is subsequently found to be ineligible for the category they have entered (ie. novice, barebow), will not be permitted to compete. If this is discovered before the event the individual will be permitted to switch to the appropriate category, if possible (determined by BUCS), this will incur a £15 admin fee. If discovered after or during the event, the participant will be disqualified, any awards will be revoked and a £50 fine will be issued to the appropriate Institution post-event. Investigations into eligibility may be completed up to six months after the tournament date. 

As a minimum, archers at the tournament(s) will be expected to; understand how to score, understand how to fill out a score sheet, know the safety rules (including “fast”), and understand any rules specific to their bow type. 

To be able to shoot at the BUCS Indoor Archery Championships you MUST provide an ArcheryGB Card (Physical or E-Card) at registration at all events. Failure to do so may result in an archer being unable to shoot.

Please note: Student cards are also required at registration to be eligible to shoot. 

Experienced entrants are expected to provide their ArcheryGB Number on their entry; failure to do so may result in your entry being rejected, novice entrants may be entered as ‘TBC’ but will need to provide suitable evidence at registration/prior to the shoot. If you are an experienced entrant without an ArcheryGB number please email Joe Gallimore to ensure your entry is accepted. 

To apply for the competition all eligible competitors must follow these steps:  

1. Competitor to apply to the event on BUCS Play (Instructions on how to do this can be found here)  

2. Institution administrator approves entry (Instructions on how to do this can be found here)  

3. BUCS approves/denies entry into competition and publishes confirmed entry list

All information must be submitted in order for the entry to be processed. Any incorrect information submitted will be rejected. 

Please note: When you enter this competition, the listed information may be collected and shared with tournament organisers, scoring systems and other competitors for example Target Lists and Results may be published displaying some (or all) of the information provided. 

Institution Administrators must rank competitors in the order of preference for entry. This information will be used if the event is oversubscribed and will be used to allocate spaces. Any competitors not initially allocated a space will be added to a reserve list. Any institution wishing to make a substitution for one of their allocation must request this by Monday 27 January 2025. If an institution withdraws an entry, but does not have anyone on the reserve list, the space will not be re-allocated, and the entry fee will not be returned. Substitutions cannot be made after Monday 27 January 2025 under any circumstances and can only be made from those on the reserve list. 

Open disability category awards (depending on entries) will have their results extracted from the combined BUCS regionals scores and be awarded at the finals event. If you wish to enter this category, please state so on your entry. If you require any support at the BUCS Indoor Archery Championship events due to disability, please let us know on your entry submission and where possible we will support you.  

If you require adaptive equipment please include details of this in your entry form on BUCSPlay. It is the responsibility of the archer to ensure that any assistive equipment complies with the ArcheryGB Rules of Shooting, if any assistive equipment is not compliant the archer may not be eligible to compete at the event and therefore, unable to shoot. 

If you require an agent to help you at the competition, this is your responsibility to organise. If for any reason you cannot arrange for an agent to support you, please email Joe Gallimore at least one week before your competition date.  

If you wish to withdraw from either of the indoor events please note the following fines will apply and you will not be refunded your entry fee;  

Where an archer develops a new injury/medical condition between entry and the Regional Qualifiers, or the Regional Qualifiers and the National Finals requiring them to withdraw, a medical note can be submitted to avoid incurring a fine. 

Notification of a withdrawal should be sent via e-mail by the Institution Administrator to Joe Gallimore 

Archers will proceed to finals as specified in ARC2.1.2. A list of spaces available for each category will be published on the BUCS website by Monday 3 March 2025. 

It is expected that all athletes who wish to take part at the BUCS Indoor Regional Qualifiers will wish to proceed to the finals event but, we understand that this is not always the case. If you do not wish to proceed to the finals event, please state this on your entry submission in the additional information section. Archers not wishing to progress to finals will be placed at the bottom of the reserves’ list for the Regional Tournament in the case of a cut, irrespective of the number of entries received by their institution. There is no fine for not wishing to proceed to finals if it is specified on your entry.
