Stage 2

Stage 2 entries are now open and will close for student entries on Tuesday the 8th of February and approvals will close for Institution Adminstrators on the 10th of February. 

Stage 2 entries will be allocated the Bristol qualifier regardless of preference. 

Entrants must achieve the appropriate qualification score in order to be entered into the event. If the event is over subscribed the entries that are the highest above their relevant qualification score will be accepted. 

Stage 2 Cost: £33.30

Competitors will shoot a Portsmouth Round. Non-Compound archers will shoot at a 60cm single spot target face, whilst Compound archers will shoot at a 60cm triple spot vertical target face. Shooting shall be in timed ends of two minutes. The round will be UK Record Status.

Competitors at Record Status tournaments are liable for drug testing, and competitors approached to give samples must comply. Refusal to comply will be treated as a positive result.

PLEASE NOTE: It is likely that all archers will be asked to share a target face. Timing will be done under manual control (no visible countdown clocks).

There are no BUCS Points available at the Regional Events, however (depending on entry numbers) medals are awarded to:

Open Novice Team Trophy: the highest three non-compound scores from the eligible male or female competitors from each institution, Novice only.

Open disability category awards (depending on entries) will have their results extracted from the combined BUCS regionals scores and be awarded at the finals event: No BUCS Points

Qualification scores must have been shot at/after the BUCS Regional events in 2020 and before the entry closing date (18^th January 2022).

Qualification scores must be submitted with an archer’s entry. In the first instance all qualification scores should be on a Portsmouth round however, if you are unable to provide one of these a WA18 score may be considered in exceptional circumstances. If you feel you would need to submit a WA18 score, please email [email protected] explaining why, and to see if it will be accepted/what score you would require.

Whilst these scores do not have to be shot at a full competition, it is required that they are shot under competition conditions (e.g. countersigned scoresheets, adequate distance, field captain, controlled shooting). Quaification Score Checks

For the BUCS Indoor competition(s) qualification scores will be spot checked prior to, at and/or after the event. Any archer who does not achieve the qualification score or higher at their regional qualifier will be asked to give evidence of their qualification score after the event. Evidence will be requested via an email to their respective Sports/Athletic Union and the email address provided with their entry. This evidence will need to be a countersigned score sheet or results sheet and must be presented within one week of it being requested. This evidence may be asked for up to six months after the tournament date.

Failure to provide evidence may result in a fine and disqualification.

To be eligible to compete at the BUCS Indoor Archery Championships you must be a current student at a BUCS member institution (as set out in the BUCS Regulations) and a member of ArcheryGB.

As a minimum, archers at the tournament(s) will be expected to; understand how to score, understand how to fill out a score sheet, know the safety rules (including “fast”), and understand any rules specific to their bow type.

To be able to shoot at the BUCS Indoor Archery Championships you MUST provide either an ArcheryGB Card (Physical or E-Card) or a membership receipt at registration at all events. Failure to do so may result in an archer being unable to shoot.

Please note: Student cards are also required at registration to be eligible to shoot.

Experienced entrants are expected to provide their ArcheryGB Number on their entry; failure to do so may result in your entry being rejected, novice entrants may be entered as ‘tbc’ but will need to provide suitable evidence at registration/prior to the shoot. If you are an experienced entrant without an ArcheryGB number please email [email protected] to ensure your entry is accepted.

To apply for this competition all competitors must have registered on BUCS Play with their university email address and then subsequently joined the Archery community.

When you enter competitions the following information may be collected and shared with tournament organisers, scoring systems and other competitors for example target lists and results may be published: First Name, Surname, Gender, Bow style, Date of Birth / Age category, Email, Address, Phone number, Club (and ID), County (and ID), Region (and ID), Round (unless defined by age), Disabled (Y/N), Disability info.

It is expected that all athletes who wish to take part at the BUCS Indoor Regional Qualifiers will wish to proceed to the finals event but, we understand that this is not always the case. If you do not wish to proceed to the finals event, please state this on your entry submission. Archers not wishing to progress to finals will be placed at the bottom of the reserves’ list for the Regional Tournament in the case of a cut, irrespective of the number of entries received by their institution. There is no fine for not wishing to proceed to finals if it is specified on your entry.

Archers eligible for the novice category are any entrants who have not held insurance with an Archery Governing Body prior to, and who have commenced shooting during this academic year (deemed to start on 1^st September 2021) and have entered the appropriate category on the online entry form. Queries regarding whether an archer is eligible for novice status should be directed to [email protected].

Institution Administrators must rank competitors in the order of preference for entry. This information will be used if the event is oversubscribed and will be used to allocate spaces. Any competitors not initially allocated a space will be added to a reserve list. Any institution wishing to make a substitution for one of their allocation must request this by 28^th January 2022. If an institution withdraws an entry, but does not have anyone on the reserve list, the space will not be re-allocated and the entry fee will not be returned. Substitutions cannot be made after 28^th January 2022 under any circumstances and can only be made from those on the reserve list.

Venue and Session preferences will be allocated based on geographical proximity to the shooting venue and spaces available. If you require a specific venue please email [email protected], prior to the student closing date. Where possible (reasonable) requests for specific venues and sessions will be met. Confirmed competitor shooting times and venue assignments will be published by the 28^th January 2022 for regionals and 4^th March 2022 for finals.

There is a separate disabled category which will be awarded at the finals event (entry numbers depending) with results being extracted from the combined regional qualifier results. If you wish to enter this category, please state so on your entry. If you require any support at any of the BUCS Indoor Archery Championship events due to disability, please let us know on your entry submission and where possible we will support you.

If you require assistive equipment please state what this is and be able to provide sufficient supporting evidence as per the rules e.g. for Qualifiers a DMF form, for Finals a WA Classification. If for any reason you cannot provide evidence email [email protected].

If you wish to withdraw from either of the indoor events please note the following fines will apply and you will not be refunded your entry fee;

Where an archer develops a new injury/medical condition between entry and the Regional Qualifiers, or the Regional Qualifiers and the National Finals requiring them to withdraw, a medical note can be submitted to avoid incurring a fine.

Notification of a withdrawal should be sent via e-mail by the Institution Administrator to Olivia Hellas.

The highest individual scorers from each category, from the three Regional events, will progress to the final (all scores in a combined seeding). There will be no novice event in the finals therefore, archers in the novice category will be included in an overall seeding and will be able to qualify for the event. If multiple archers achieve the lowest accepted score for qualification to finals, all archers on that score will be invited to compete. Hits and Golds will not be used as a tie breaker.

Only archers who have achieved the experienced qualification score at the regional event(s) will be eligible to attend the finals event.

The extraction of scores will be done as a proportionate percentage of all accepted entries to regionals, or a minimum of 8 spaces. No more than the equivalent of ⅔ of a session's worth of spaces will be allocated to any individual category; where a proportionate percentage of entries exceeds this, the category will be cut at ⅔ of the session space and the remaining spaces distributed proportionally to the other categories.
A list of spaces available will be published on the BUCS website by the 4^th March 2022.

All information is subject to change based on current COVID guidance. We would strongly recommend all participants complete a lateral flow test no more than 24 hours prior to their event. This is for everyone's safety.

Face masks will also be recommended when individuals are not actively shooting as per the latest ArcheryGB guidance.

We cannot guarantee seating/chairs at any of the venues. If you are going to need a chair/seat between shooting please ensure you bring one with you.

What are we doing to ensure your safety? 

The safety of students, volunteers and staff remains paramount as we move into the 2021-22 season, therefore for the time being we will still be implementing a series of Covid-19 Measures at our events. Although certain safety measures surrounding Covid-19 will be dictated by a venue or specific sport requirements we will be continuing to implement the following general measures across all of our events: 

1. Event Disclaimer includes specifics around Covid-19 

2. Whist inside staff members and volunteers interacting with competitors will be wearing appropriate face coverings 

3. Covid-19 questionnaire completed prior to arrival at the event by all competitors, officials, volunteers and support staff. 

4. Access to hand-washing facilities, or hand sanitiser 

What’s expected of competitors: 

1. Event competitors should stay home if they have any Covid-19 symptoms, live in the same household with someone with Covid-19 symptoms or have been diagnosed with, or suspected to have, Covid-19 in the past 10 days 

2. Competitors should stay home if they have been instructed to quarantine due to international travel restrictions or by NHS Track and Trace 

3. Competitors must follow direction from event staff, venue staff and volunteers. 

4. Competitors must complete Covid-19 questionnaire prior to arrival at the event   

5. Competitors should ensure they are following hand hygiene practices at all times 

6. Competitors are encouraged to wear a face covering when indoors and moving about the building 

7. Competitors should follow the guidance and safety procedures outlined for the event you are attending. These can be found in the Event Guide once released. 

8. Competitors unable to attend event due to Covid-19 must contact the event lead 

Lateral Flow Tests and Vaccine Status  

1. For some events, dependent on local council recommendations or venue requirements we may require proof of negative PCR or rapid lateral flow tests within the last 48 hours or proof of being fully vaccinated for a least 2 weeks.
