Durham Women’s 1 rugby union team will be unable to fulfil any further fixtures for the remainder of the Women’s BUCS Super Rugby 2024-2025 season.

Durham Women’s 1 rugby union team will be unable to fulfil any further fixtures for the remainder of the Women’s BUCS Super Rugby 2024-2025 season.

The Durham team have unfortunately struggled with injuries during the inaugural season of Women’s BSR. This has unexpectedly challenged their ability to name the five suitable props/hookers required in each match day squad.

The women's rugby programme at Durham is continuing to run with Durham Women’s 2 competing in BUCS competitions and a strong college programme, with increasing participant numbers, providing an entrance route into the game. Durham also continue to work with Durham County RFU to provide a women’s rugby pathway in the North East of England, supporting with the England Rugby Developing Player Programme in the region.

The WBSR season will continue without Durham with each opponent receiving a five point win for the remaining fixtures against Durham. The points are to be added to the league table once the scheduled fixture has passed and been conceded.

All future matches, including the BUCS Super Rugby Milk Championships in early 2025, will continue as planned.

The winner of the Premier North vs Premier South playoff scheduled for 12 February 2025 will be promoted to WBSR for the 2025-26 season. A decision on the future makeup of the league will also be subject to a later decision, through consultation with the League Management Committee and Sport Advisory Group.
