Get Involved

Working in partnership with England Athletics and Sport England, BUCS Sport Development Team has supported the development of a specific offer for higher education Athletics.

England Athletics are involved in a number of different programmes that are suitable for both students and staff to get involved with. You don't need to be part of the athletics club to take part nor do you need to be a 'good runner'. Click on the bold text to read further information on each of the options for how to get involved in existing sessions or how to create your own at your university.

1. Set up a Run England Group - you don't need speed to lead- just enthusiasm and a desire to support others.

2. Set Up a 3-2-1 route - set up a marked Route on your campus for anyone to try when they like

3. Train as an AthleFIT leader - bringing athletics to the people in a fun, vibrant, inclusive format in place people feel comfortable

4. Athletics & Running Clubs - inclusive clubs with a wide range of opportunities for participation, competition, coaching and volunteering

5. Set up Great Run Local events - a national network of free, weekly, social and volunteer-led local running events in accessible community areas!

6. Start or attend a parkrun - parkrun events are free to attend, weekly, timed 5K runs

For more information on developing athletics at your university or for universities outside of England who would like to discuss alternative opportunities please contact Amy Seaman, BUCS Sport Development Manager.
